“U.S. Embassy Opens @america”

Thursday 12 January 2012

After more that a year of planning the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta finally opened @america, the U.S.'s first high-tech cultural center in the world, at a Jakarta mall on Thursday (12/2). The facility is targeted to open the horizons of
the Indonesian youth regarding the U.S. and is equiped with advanced information technology. The center itself was launched by visiting U.S. Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Judith A. McHale, who cutted the ribbon at the opening ceremony. @america was developed by the U.S Embassy with the help of Indonesian and U.S. private partners to provide a high-tech cultural and information center where visitors can explore, share experiences and express themselves on all things related to America. In his November 2010 visit to Indonesia, U.S. President Barack Obama mentioned about strengthening relations between the two countries and
@america is one of the first example of increased partnership between the U.S. and Indonesia.
